Winter: The Peak Experience (December - March)

Vail is considered one of the top winter vacation destinations in the world, and there is a good reason why. With more than 5,000 acres of skiable terrain, snow-covered cobblestone streets, and a European-esque village vibe, you’ll feel like you’ve walked right into a magical winter wonderland.

Hoping for a visit to the Legendary Back Bowls or wanting to perfect your turns on one of the many trails at Vail Resort? January and February typically bring consistent snowfall and powdery conditions, while March offers plenty of bluebird days in between. Winter sports not in your wheelhouse? No worries! Vail offers several activities and attractions that aren’t just skiing and being outdoors. Shop, dine, and meet up with the crew at Sarah’s Lounge to watch Helmut Fricker, a local Vail legend, sing and play traditional Bavarian tunes on his accordion.

Guests who book a stay with Christiania at Vail receive up to 20% OFF ski and snowboard rentals with our trusted, preferred local partners.

Christiania Insider Tip:

  • Winter is peak season in Vail, so make sure you book your Vail hotel room or condo rental ASAP! Book directly with Christiania at Vail & skip out on all the extra fees.
  • If you do visit in the winter and patience isn’t your strong suit, avoid visiting Vail during the Christmas and New Year holidays. You’ll encounter longer-than-usual wait times at both the lifts and popular restaurants and attractions.

Spring: The Sun-Seeker's Choice (April - May)

Three scenes: a snowboarder on a snowy slope, a sunny street with tulips in the foreground, and an outdoor café along a charming mountain town street.

After being bundled up all winter long, we welcome spring with open arms. The ski season is nearing its end, but you can still make your way down the mountain as late-season skiing is usually good until mid-April. Attend several festivities, such as outdoor pond skims, end-of-season concerts, and more, to say goodbye to winter.

By May, most of the snow has melted, and the crowds of winter have disappeared. While trails may be muddy from the lingering snow, you can still strap on your hiking boots and get a taste of what’s to come in the summer.

Annual Vail Spring Events

  • Taste of Vail

Summer: The Local's Favorite (June - August)

Three outdoor adventure scenes: hikers in a mountain meadow, a cyclist on a dirt trail with alpine backdrop, and a group rafting a white-water river.

Vail, Colorado, in the summer, is a dream. Imagine breezy days, trails and valleys filled with colorful wildflowers, and the perfect weather for so many outdoor activities. It’s a great time to explore Vail’s many hiking and mountain biking trails, attend outdoor festivals, and get on the river! Spend your days soaking in the fresh mountain air, and after a day of exploration, come back to your Vail vacation rental and sip on a glass of wine while reminiscing on the day’s adventures.
